WHICH FLOORING OPTION IS BEST FOR YOUR KITCHEN?
/When it comes to kitchens, you need something attractive, durable, and of course able to withstand all the mess that comes with cooking. There are many options to choose from, from tiles to stone and wood, but which would be best in your particular home? In this post, Luxury Flooring & Furnishings provide their expert advice to ensure you choose the best style for your kitchen.
Wood
Wood flooring is extremely attractive, and can help achieve that rustic or country house look that is currently extremely popular. However, wood isn’t always the most practical. Solid wood flooring for example can warp and shrink when exposed to changes in temperature, moisture and humidity. In a kitchen where these factors are rife, that is exactly what you want to avoid. In this case, engineered wood flooring is perfect. Although the surface layer uses solid wood to create an identical appearance to its solid counterparts, the layers beneath are plywood and therefore harder for moisture to penetrate. This makes engineered flooring beautiful, strong and able to withstand the warping and shrinking in kitchen conditions, and for just a fraction of the price! It is still important to clean spillages as they occur however, as the surface layer may become damaged.
Tiles
Tiles are a cheaper and more durable alternative. Stone tiles for example will not allow water to
penetrate the surface at all, meaning you are safe from flooring damage and get lasting value for
money. However, although the texture reduces slip risk, they can be rough and hard underfoot,
which isn’t fun for those who enjoy being barefoot or have delicate children. Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) are therefore a better tile alternative for some. They recreate wood, stone and tile looks as
authentically as possible but with a much more cushioned feeling. You can also get a variety of
finishes so the feel appears authentic too. Don’t be put off by the word vinyl however – LVT is much less tacky looking than sheet vinyl!
Laminate
Finally, laminate is a great option. It consists of many highly water-resistant layers topped off with an authentic photographic image and wear layer to resist scratches and moisture damage. This is
potentially the best option for busy kitchens where people drop or spill things often or there are
children and pets, and will ensure your kitchen floor will look as beautiful as possible for the longest time. Like LVT, there are stone and wood looks available, so there is something for everyone!
I hope this guide has helped you find the best option for your kitchen floor –and just remember that no matter what kind of home you live in, there is always a way to achieve your dream look!
