I’ve been experimenting with lamps vs ceiling lights.
The ambience of a lamp cannot be beat by any ceiling light. Period. Yes, you could have a dimmer switch, but we're not in the 80’s, so why would you?
If you’ve seen my house then you’ll know that I’ve got plenty of both; lights and lamps. (No dimmer switches!) But sometimes I wonder if there’s ever such a thing as too many lamps?
The problem with table lamps is in the title. You need a table. So, if you’re looking for a statement light and you’re on a budget and need to scrimp then get a floor lamp.
So what’s the offer like out there? Well that does depend on your budget and style. Did you know that supermarket brand Aldi now do homeware and currently have a floor lamp for a bargain £49.99 (see link below). The high street offer is also looking strong, M&S have really upped their game on all things homeware, as have John Lewis.
I own the Navy tripod lamp from Made.com, which at £99 is great value and has evolved nicely with our style. I've been thinking of updating mine with a new shade. It's worth noting that you can do this with any of the lamps which come with shades. It certainly helps if you get bored easily like me.
If you’re into marble and brass like me, but have a huge budget (unlike me) then check out Italian lighting brand Flos and their Captain lamp. This lamp is sleek, sturdy and is on my lust list.
If you want to make a statement in style and you’re not afraid of going for something a bit different then how about a palm tree light from Rockett St George. You can actually see this for yourself in the pop up shop in Liberty of London. If not, take my word for it. This lamp is flipping amazing, and looks like it's come straight from a 1970’S Biba store.
I've scanned the highstreet and online offer of floor lamps to suit all budgets and looks. These lamps are sure to leave their fellow competitors all in the shade!
Enjoy my pick of the best!
