{HOUSE LUST LOVES} THE RESTORATION HOTEL, CHARLESTON
/Happy hump day guys!
If you follow my blog or my Instagram then you’ll already know that September was mostly spent travelling around the southern States of America with the hubster (yep, I’ve just used the word Hubster… sorry Jess). To re-cap, we spent a couple of weeks covering Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Charleston and Savannah.
You might have already seen my post on Reese Witherspoon’s lifestyle brand; Draper James in Nashville Tennessee? Or my guide on homeware shopping in New Orleans? Which by the way is worth a read if you’re ever in Nola as this place had the coolest shops.
Today’s post is about Charleston, and our very lovely accommodation at The Restoration hotel.
Because some hotels have great interiors. In fact, some hotels have better interiors than a lot of homes and the restoration is one of those hotels.
Our trip was a year in the making, as we carefully planned our route and hotels by undertaking the usual research of trip advisor, blogs, and flicking through magazines which is how the Restoration hotel caught my eye.
I read somewhere that Conde Nast traveller had ranked Charleston as the world’s second best tourist destination and the restoration was being celebrated as the place to stay. So obviously, I needed to see for myself.
Located slap bang in the middle of Charleston’s downtown on Wentworth street. This location couldn’t be better. Especially if you’re like me and love to shop, as this area is a shopper’s haven. Plus, don’t get me started on the amazing restaurants… Elli’s table, Poogans porch and Husk all within walking distance.
The surrounding streets look beautifully old fashioned, so much so that the film the note book was filmed here and didn’t need much of a makeover to create that retro feel. But don’t worry, there’s nothing old fashioned about this luxury hotel as it’s a hipster’s paradise despite its historic roots. Spread across five buildings, this hotel feels more a fancy apartment complex, as each room has a full kitchen and sofas to relax and unwind in. The rooms are comfortable and the furnishings are classic. It’s like they raided America’s homeware store, restoration hardware. Yet the exposed brickwork walls keep things industrial.
The day starts with a continental breakfast of your choice delivered to your room in the cutest picnic hamper. You can even order a boiled egg! Yep a boiled egg… if you're one of those… er healthy living protein types? I on the other hand obviously went for the croissant and jam option most days. The coffee’s and breakfast are actually from the in house coffee shop ‘The Rise’ which is situated downstairs, and is open to the public. My husband is the coffee connoisseur and he tells me it does the best Mocha’s… so that’s all you need to know.
The hotel facilities are out of this world. There’s the Amethyst Spa & Nail bar located on the ground floor, the rooftop pool area, and the rooftop bar/ dining room at ‘The Watch’, offering farm to table meals with seating inside and outside for those balmy Charleston nights. My husband and I spent many a night out on the outside terrace watching the world go by below with a glass of wine in hand. (Most buildings in Charleston aren’t built very high, so the restoration is probably one of the tallest giving you an amazing view of the city below.)
There’s a cheese and wine reception held every day at 5pm in the downstairs library, for all those wanting a pre-dinner snack and the hotel even offers complimentary cycle bikes, so you’re free to explore the city by bike if you choose… like a true Hipster would.
The Restoration is what all hotels should be; stylish and have bags of southern charm and hospitality.
Plus Charleston is just so damn cute, you really don't need an excuse to visit? Just see for yourself from the pics below.
Happy visiting Y’all!
